Aerial work platform manufacturer Skyjack sold 1,060 new machines to Speedy, the U.K.’s largest equipment rental company. The order includes DC electric scissorlifts, electric vertical mast lifts and diesel-powered rough-terrain scissorlifts. Deliveries have already begun and the full lineup of machines will arrive over the coming months.

Speedy is updating and expanding its fleet of access equipment so that the oldest units at its branches will be from 2013.

“With energy costs increasing on a daily basis, we want the latest products on the market, both in terms of sustainability and innovation and these machines fit the bill,” said Andy Connor, Speedy’s supply chain director.

A majority of the order are the 24v Skyjack DC electric scissorlifts, with working heights ranging from 19 feet to 32 feet, with improved battery life and quieter operation than past units.

The electric vertical mast lifts offer 12 feet or 16 feet working heights. Speedy also ordered diesel-powered SJ 6832 RT scissorlifts with a 32-foot working height, the first time Speedy has invested in diesel-powered aerial units.

“The diesel machines ensure we can answer every customer need and allow us to expand into larger construction jobsites,” added Connor.

Speedy Hire, based in Newton-le-Willow, Merseyside, U.K., has 346 locations. Skyjack is based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
