Cedar Street Sales and Rentals, Batavia, N.Y., has reached the 20-year milestone, the company noted on its website, and celebrated with an open house and customer event. Owner Guy Clark Jr. told the thebatavian.com that he owned a tool shop in the town of Le Roy when the owners of Cummings & Bricker, a Batavia-based farm equipment wholesaler, talked to him about opening an equipment rental business on a property they owned in Batavia. Clark opened his rental business March 1, 1993.
Cedar Street has become one of the top Cub Cadet lawn mower dealers in the United States, with about 5,000 sold.
Clark told thebatavian.com that a few years ago the local Home Depot rental department took a run at his company by intentionally setting the rental price of every item $1 lower. But the tactic was unsuccessful and the Home Depot closed its local rental department some time later.
