Volvo Rents presented its Hardhat Comedy Tour July 8, at Sidesplitters Comedy Club in Tampa, Fla., and at the Denver Improv Comedy Club on Wednesday, July 22.

In Tampa, Carmen Ciricillo, a.k.a. “The Construction Comic,” teamed up with Volvo Rents to show contractors a good time while benefitting the local food bank, Metropolitan Ministries, for which they collected hundreds of pounds of food.

“We wanted to give contractors V.I.P. treatment in an R.I.P. construction market,” said Ciricillo, who is the former “tool man” on the Discovery Channel’s Your New House television show. “Contractors have been hard hit, and this is just a little way of bringing some laughter back into their lives. We also know that the local food banks have many more mouths to feed, and no matter how difficult the times have been for the industry, we can always dig a little deeper to find something to offer those less fortunate.”

In Denver, Volvo Rents of Longmont & Colorado Springs, Colo., presented nationally renowned comic Matt Kazam and comedians Troy Baxley and MC Jodee Champion who performed to benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies.

Ciricillo, an XM and Sirius Satellite Radio regular, says that contractors need to be supported during this rough patch. “I know how tough it is right now for this group and so does Volvo Rents. The economy has been tough for a lot of Americans, especially contractors. We are putting on an unprecedented comedy tour to show them we are still thinking of them and are grateful for their generosity — good times or bad.”

Kazam has made numerous television appearances on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” Fox’s “Big Red Couch,” Comedy Central’s “Stand-Up Stand-Up,” VH-1’s “Fools For Love,” TLC’s “Two For Vegas,” The Discovery Channel’s “Lux List” and has served as the opening act for such notable comedians as Chris Rock, Pauly Shore, Kevin James, Robin Williams, DL Hughley and Drew Carey. In addition, Kazam has a comedy special entitled “Stand-Up and Sit-Down with Matt Kazam” currently airing on XM Satellite Radio.

Asheville, N.C.-based Volvo Rents has put together a 15-plus city tour that offers free admission for those in the construction industry when they donate three or more non-perishable food items to their local food bank. The tour has already raised thousands of pounds of food for local food banks and more than 10,000 boxes of charitable supplies for the U.S. military.

Volvo Rents is No. 19 on the RER 100.
