Industrial projects valued at about $117 billion are planned to begin in Texas and Louisiana in 2015, according to Industrial Info Resources. While all industries are showing activity in the region, oil-and-gas production, including liquefied natural gas projects, chemical processing and power represent the dominant industries in the two states.

LNG projects continue to dominate the region, with the largest of these being Gulf Coast LNG Export LLC’s planned production and export terminal in Brownsville, Texas. If the project receives authorization from federal authorities for construction and operation, the facility will have a production capacity of about 20 million tons per year of LNG.

The construction of ethyIene and methanol production units are important drivers of Gulf Coast industrial development. Construction began this year on new ethylene units in Texas by ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Dow Chemical and others. In the next few months Sasol plans to begin construction of an ethylene unit in Westlake, La., followed by other companies developing ethylene, propane dehydrogenation and methane projects in the area.

Industrial Info will hold a free 2015 Market Outlook & Networking Event Nov. 5 at The Cook Hotel in Baton Rouge, with United Rentals as Premier Sponsor.
