Kohler
Designed for commercial turf and construction equipment users, Kohler will add six new models to its Command Pro line of engines in January 2007. For the commercial turf market, the new 34-, 36- and 38-hp gasoline engines will provide more power and offer a new design that provides serviceability and extends maintenance intervals. The new air-cooled, V-twin Command Pro models at 999cc are available in both horizontal- and vertical-shaft configurations and meet the new EPA Tier 3 and CARB emissions requirements.
The new engines target a range of commercial and industrial applications, including turf mowers, generators and pumps. The basic configuration is a 90-degree, twin-cylinder, overhead valve design with an electronic ignition system, two-barrel carburetor and mechanical governor. The engine uses an aluminum block with cast-iron cylinder liners, a common feature on such engines intended to promote longer life and durability.

Honda
Honda's GX Series is engineered to offer reliable, easy-starting, fuel-efficient power for a variety of commercial applications. Its rugged OHV design ensures a high level of durability for construction, maintenance and power equipment in the rental market. Honda produces 21 models in the GX Series, ranging from 3 to 24 hp. These engines are available in either horizontal- or vertical-shaft designs and in either single cylinder or V-twin versions. The GX V-twins offer the same advanced technology found in the single-cylinder GX engines, adding commercial-grade features such as a high capacity, automotive-style air cleaner, high-pressure lubrication system, and a forced-air oil cooler on the 670 models that constantly maintains optimum oil temperature during prolonged operation.
The iGX Series of engines (pictured) features an integrated electronic control unit that delivers complete drive-by-wire remote control capability and controls key aspects of engine operation. Benefiting both consumers and the environment, iGX technology results in lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and lower noise through reduced total engine running time and engine speed that can be lowered based on power demands. This technology works in conjunction with the new engine's V-type valve layout and sparkplug-center combustion chamber to yield a fuel economy increase of about 15 percent.
Honda's website offers service manuals and parts catalogs for all engines as well as a comprehensive list of dealers and distributors by state to find a servicing dealer if problems arise.
