In New York City’s Manhattan Lower East Side neighborhood of Chinatown, a Genie GS-3232 scissor lift, rented from Able Equipment Rental, was used by a wall mural artist to create a mural dedicated to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant. Brooklyn-based artist Mark Paul Deren, who uses the alias “Madsteez,” recently completed a large portrait of the legendary basketball player with his daughter Gianna in Chinatown.
Deren said the organization East Village Walls serves as the curator for the Sun Yat Sen Intermediate School in Chinatown — where the mural honoring Bryant is located.
The students at the school voted on what they wanted on the wall space and they chose a mural of Kobe and Gianna Bryant. East Village Walls reached out to Deren because they knew of his previous relationship with Kobe Bryant, having created a Bryant mural in Newport Beach, Calif., that was commissioned by Nike. The mural is based on a photo by the photographer Atiba Jefferson.
Able Equipment Rental is headquartered in Deer Park, N.Y.
