Xylem Wins Major Wastewater Treatment Plant Contract in Brazil
Xylem Inc., a global water technology company, has been awarded a contract to supply treatment technology and systems for a new wastewater treatment plant in Brazil that will serve 60,000 people. Construction is currently underway with Xylem providing its Sanitaire brand intermittent cycle extended aeration system (ICEAS) biological technology to treat wastewater in the city of Campo Grande in the Mato Grosso state of Brazil.
The contract for the Imbirussu wastewater treatment plant was awarded by Aguas Guariroba, part of the EQUIPAV Group, which operates public water treatment facilities in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil. Aguas Guariroba has invested more than U.S. $7 million in the wastewater treatment plant, which will initially improve wastewater effluent quality in 33 districts of Campo Grande.
“Xylem’s Sanitaire ICEAS solution is proving very popular in this region due to its energy efficiency and compact footprint,” said Richard Dixon, managing director, Xylem Latin America. “As urban populations expand across Latin America, wastewater treatment is becoming an increasingly important issue for public health and safety. Xylem is helping to address these and other water issues, providing technical expertise along with market-leading solutions.”
Xylem has installed more than 90,000 Sanitaire diffusers in Brazil to date, and is developing new and upgrading existing wastewater treatment systems throughout the country.
The Imbirussu project is part of Aguas Guariroba’s U.S. $28 million investment plan to deploy 139km of new sewerage networks in the Campo Grande region, to reach 70 percent of households by mid-2013.
