Joseph McEwen, Modern Group’s founder , stepped down recently as chairman of the board in a planned transition. John F. Smith was elected chairman of the board and McEwen will remain as a director. Smith will oversee the ESOP transaction currently underway and will assist the company with its ongoing development of long-term strategy.
David Griffith will continue as president and CEO with responsibility for the overall operation and direction of the company.
Bristol, Pa.-based Modern Group is a privately owned distributor of material handling, construction and maintenance products in the mid-Atlantic region. Its companies, which include Modern Equipment Sales & Rental, have 24 locations in New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.
Modern is No. 32 on the RER 100.
