Crane manufacturer Manitowoc Corp. laid off more than 250 people from its facility in Shady Grove, Pa., therecordherald.com reported. Manitowoc officials acknowledged that 235 hourly employees and 25 salaried workers lost their jobs as a result of weakened crane demand.
Although Manitowoc reported solid third quarter results, crane sales weakened considerably in the fourth quarter with crane sales declining 8 percent compared to the previous year.
