The total size of the European equipment rental market was €23 million (about U.S. $31 million), an average decrease of 0.1 percent compared to 2011, according the The European Equipment Rental Industry 2013 Report, published by the European Rental Association. The report, produced by ERA in cooperation with IHS Global Insight, the report contains a country-by-country analysis of 12 European countries, including detailed market size information for the years 2010-2013 and key ratios including fleet size, investment and penetration rates.
A special focus of the 2013 edition has been the validation of the U.K. rental market with the U.K. stakeholders, enabling ERA to develop a breakdown of U.K. rental activity by product categories and by market segment, as well as market size including rental with operators.
In other highlights, the estimate for 2013 is showing slow growth with an average increase of 0.7 percent compared to 2012. The forecast for 2014 and 2015 is showing 2 percent and 3 percent respectively, meaning that growth is expected to remain moderate in the near term but will start to gain speed in 2015.
National rental markets across Europe remain heterogeneous. The picture shows some countries with strong growth, such as Norway, and many countries with growth levels comparable to their national economies. Other countries, with young rental industries, such as Spain or Italy, have had difficult years because of the economic environment.
The report says that based on 2010 statistics, for the 12 countries covered under the study, there are 13,900 rental companies and more than 114,000 people employed.
Each country’s information is provided with expanded details, four pages for each country in local currency where applicable.
