JLG Industries, leading global manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, has announced an expansion to its Building Information Modelling library, which now includes the company’s compact crawler booms, making the full JLG product line available for download at www.bimobject.com.

BIM is an intelligent 3d model-based process that gives architecture and construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure projects.

“BIMobject is an ideal partner for JLG because both companies continue to be at the forefront of innovation for this technology,” said Neil Doherty, JLG chief engineer and project lead for BIM. “The company offers a steady flow of visitors to their site and a high penetration of registered users who actively view and download BIM models.”

JLG’s BIM models are created internally instead of through a third party. Creating its own models ensures that users have the benefit of specifications that look and act as the real equipment would on the job. It also allows JLG to be in direct control of equipment revisions so that models are always up to date.

“BIM continues to transform the traditionally siloed architecture, engineering and construction disciplines to enhance communication and integrate workflows,” said Guru Bandekar, global vice president, product management & development for JLG. “BIM helps improve collaboration among teams and gives greater design insight through the entire building lifecycle from concept to demolition or renovation. All models in the library are available and downloadable in a data-rich format, giving everyone in the construction value chain access to this valuable tool.”

For rental companies, a major advantage of BIM is that at a very early stage the equipment required by their customers at a jobsite can be identified, with transportation planned for. This will allow rental companies to deliver the right product at the right time to complete the work at hand.
