JCB has announced its entry into the $8 billion powered access industry with the launch of nine all-new electric scissorlift models. JCB has been secretly developing and engineering a line-up of aerial work platforms for the past two years. By the end of 2017, JCB Access will be offering 27 new aerial machines, including scissorlifts, articulated boomlifts and telescopic boomlifts.
JCB intends to grab a slice of a market that sells about 130,000 units per year for estimated annual revenue of $8 billion.
“The access market is a truly global market and offers immense opportunities for growth for JCB,” said JCB chairman Lord Bamford. “It’s a market that is ripe for a new supplier with the ability to offer industry leading, round-the-clock product support. JCB’s 770 dealers with 2,200 depots can deliver the back-up that global customers expect.”
The new JCB Access products will initially be offered in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and North America. The company said the JCB Access range has been certified by TUV, and will comply with the latest ANSI and CSA legislation.
“Customers in this industry now have a highly credible alternative with a range of products built and certified to a higher standard,” added Lord Bamford. “We are very excited about the opportunities this offers the rental customers that we already know very well.”
JCB’s dealer network has been undergoing full sales and service training to be able to provide support for the access platform range. JCB’s LiveLink telematics system will be incorporated as standard on all booms, and available as an option on scissorlifts.
By the end of 2017, JCB’s aerial range will include nine electric and three diesel scissorlifts from 15 feet to 45 feet. It will also offer five articulating boomlifts – four diesel and one electric – ranging from 49 feet to 81 feet. And JCB will offer 10 diesel telescopic boomlifts from 67 feet to 136 feet.
The scissorlifts weigh between 1,330 kilos and 3,366 kilos. The electric scissorlifts are powered by four 6V or 12V batteries, with hydraulic drive. Three diesel-powered models will be introduced later in 2017.
JCB plans to introduce four articulated boomlifts in 2017. All four models will be offered with four-wheel drive and two-wheel steer, delivering up to 40 percent gradeability and a maximum stowed driving speed of up to 7 kph. It will also offer a 45-foot platform height electric-powered articulating boom model in the third quarter, with two-wheel drive and two-wheel steering, with up to 30 percent gradeability.
