Kobelco Construction Machinery and Kobelco Cranes will merge their businesses at the beginning of the companies’ new fiscal year in April 2016, parent company Kobe Steel said. Kobe Steel separated the two businesses in 2004 after Kobelco Construction combined with Case New Holland to manufacturer excavators.
Kobe Steel said the merging of the two subsidiaries will position them for further growth.
“This merger is anticipated to improve business efficiency, strengthen product development capabilities, and bolster global development,” said the company in a statement. “It will also enable Kobe Steel to pursue new possibilities from the synergy derived from the accumulated technologies of its excavators and cranes. Considerations will continue with regard to the consolidation of domestic and overseas locations.”
