Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world’s largest industrial and construction equipment auctioneer, sold more than CDN $143 million (more than U.S. $129 million) of trucks and equipment in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada April 23-25, making it the largest Canadian auction in the company’s history. The auction broke other records such as online sales (more than CDN $64 million – U.S. more than $59 million, more than 9,400 registered bidders, more than 5,500 online bidders and more than 870 sellers.
The auction also set a new Canadian record for number of lots sold, more than 6,000.
“As a Canadian company that has been holding auctions in Alberta since the 1960s, to hold an auction of this magnitude here is something very special, something we are very proud of,” said Jim Rotlisberger, regional sales manager for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. "With a record amount of equipment from a record number of sellers, the auction attracted a record number of registered bidders both on site and online, which resulted in a very active bidding environment with strong prices all three days of the auction.”
Bidders participated from 49 countries, nine Canadian provinces and three territories, and 46 U.S. states, either in person or online. More than CDN $96 million was purchased by Alberta buyers.
