Used Equipment Prices Jump 1.5 Percent in February, EquipmentWatch Reports

Used equipment prices increased 1.5 percent during February, but volume decreased 3 percent according to the new EquipmentWatch Index. The index includes a quick snapshot of price, volume and age trends observed during February.
Prices increased 3.5 percent in the Southeast and the Southwest compared to January. Florida auctions drove average auction values up 11 percent compared to December prices, the report said.
The EquipmentWatch Index includes:
- A Price Index, which is a state-specific measure of monthly price differential;
- Volume Index, a state-specific measure of monthly sales volume differential;
- Age benchmarks by category. This chart shows the average age in the resale market and in auctions of a variety of equipment categories such as crawler-mounted compact excavators; electric self-propelled scissorlifts and telescopic boom aerial work platforms; skid-steer loaders, telehandlers, tractor-loader backhoes and more;
- Age benchmarks by manufacturer, which shows the average age of equipment in resale and auctions for Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, Deere, Genie, JCB and about a dozen other manufacturers.
