Aggreko, world leader in rental power and temperature control solutions, will provide large-scale power generation for the Super Bowl championship football game Feb. 2 in East Rutherford, N.J. The event will require heating and an unprecedented 21 MW of power, taking into consideration cold weather and additional security needs of the highly populated metropolitan area across the river from New York.
Aggreko Event Services will power Bruno Mars’ half-time performance, the broadcast and media compounds, stadium security efforts and several celebration sites and VIP areas.
“This marks the 24th year Aggreko will be supplying power and climate-control solutions to the big game and surrounding festivities,” said David Prince, event services senior project manager, Aggreko North America. “Our experience in dealing with energy demands both large and small equip Aggreko uniquely to execute the many engineered decisions and installations required for a successful event of this magnitude.”
Aggreko will provide:
- 21 megawatts of temporary electric power;
- 60 heaters, including 740 kW of outdoor heat for the open-air stadium’s press seats;
- A crew of 12 Aggreko technicians for installation and operation;
- Hundreds of accessories, including panels, transformer and about 80 miles of cable.
Significant logistics and detailed design are required and the Aggreko team began initial planning meetings almost a year ago following the 2013 Super Bowl game. Installation began right after the new year. The complete project timeline, including equipment removal, will encompass approximately two months.
Aggreko has a long history of providing power to sporting events such as seven PGA championships, nine U.S. Open championships, the 34th America’s Cup, numerous Olympic games and the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
