Auction, Private Resale Prices Rebound in December, EquipmentWatch Reports Show

Jan. 29, 2014

Fourth-quarter asking prices for used equipment continued the third quarter’s decline, with a December rebound, according to EquipmentWatch’s quarterly report on resale market trending. December’s price levels almost returned to July levels. The Midwest region maintained a dominant share of the market with 28 percent, followed by the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and West.

Crawler-mounted excavators regained the position of being the most popular equipment category on the resale market, followed in popularity by electric self-propelled scissorlifts, skid-steer loaders, four-wheel-drive articulated wheel loaders and telescoping boom rough-terrain lift trucks.

Caterpillar led manufacturers with the most volume on the resale market, followed by Deere, JLG, Skyjack and Genie.

The report added that December auction prices also rebounded sharply after three months of declines.
