Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power generation and temperature control solutions, provided a climate-control solution for the 24th annual edition of Art Miami, an international contemporary and modern art fair held Dec. 3-8, 2013, in Miami. Collaborating with Eventstar Structures, recognized for its unique designs of permanent and semi-permanent fabric structures, Aggreko developed a cooling and power design to meet the needs of the event’s tented facility, which hosted more than 300 works of art and more than 65,000 artists, collectors, dealers and curators.
Art Miami takes place each December during Art Week at the Midtown Miami complex in the Wynwood Arts District, incorporating about seven city blocks. The event was designed and engineered using two distinctly different tent structures and customized utility infrastructure.
“Art Miami requires a unique cooling solution for each individual event location,” said Luis Alfaro, southeast area event specialist for Aggreko North America. “Given the design of the structures, and the nature of art materials, it is important to incorporate a flexible, temporary cooling system to ensure the integrity of the artwork, as well as overall attendee comfort.”
Each exhibition section requires the ability to moderate airflow, temperature and humidity, and also needs a way to redirect the air as required to preserve the quality of individual exhibit pieces. One structure comprises three tents connected by tunnels, with each section designed to showcase different works of art in various sizes and media, including sculpture, hanging art and abstracts.
Art Miami’s installation included approximately 1,000 tons of cooling and more than 4,000 kW of power. Quiet-running, event-purposed rental generators, combined with environmental protection features, supplemented grid power and served as a backup where needed. Various sizes of tent-compatible air conditioners and chillers were installed to scale to the needs of individual artists and their works.
“What sets Aggreko apart in our opinion is an unbeatable combination of creative, technical expertise, and superior service,” said Alain Perez, president, Eventstar Structures. “At Eventstar, we engineer and design environments with a full commitment to customer style, and we are proud to collaborate with the team at Aggreko to help us develop flexible, creative power and cooling, for the ultimate guest experience.”
Aggreko has a long history of providing power to high-profile events, including the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
