For the month ending Jan. 31, the Rouse Value Index of Orderly Liquidation Values for used equipment across the 14 major rental equipment categories tracked by Rouse decreased 0.2 percent compared to December values. For the six months ended Jan. 31, average index values dropped 0.4 percent. January 2013 auction sales of rental and construction equipment averaged 3.1-percent less than Rouse December values. Nov. 2012 rental rates increased 0.5 percent compared to Oct. 2012 for the rental companies participating in Rouse’s Rental Metrics Benchmark Service. However, rental rates increased 7 percent relative to Nov. 2011.
In January, high-reach forklifts OLV increased 2.3 percent for the month. The only other of the 14 equipment categories to post increased values were dozers (1.9 percent); articulating booms (1.6 percent); and wheel loaders (0.2 percent). The biggest decreases were air compressors (-2.8 percent); and loader backhoes (-2.2 percent). For the past six months, the categories with the highest increases were: industrial forklifts (+3.7 percent); compaction rollers (+3.3 percent); scissorlifts (+3 percent); generators (+2.9 percent); and light compaction equipment (2.3 percent).
For the past six months, the biggest OLV decreases were loader backhoes (-4.7 percent); dozers (-4 percent); wheel loaders (-2.6 percent); excavators (-1.5 percent), and telescopic boomlifts (-1.4 percent).
In physical utilization (the percentage of fleet cost on-rent during a given period), industrial forklifts posted the biggest increase from May to November 2012 with 4 percent (65.5 percent to 65.8 percent); followed by backhoes with 3.8 percent (61.9 percent to 65.1 percent) and excavators, 3.6 percent (from 62.7 percent to 64.5 percent).
