SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Volvo Rents has acquired SoCal Rental-Equip Rent, a single-location construction equipment rental company in Glendora, Calif., east of Los Angeles. The Glendora Volvo Rents gives the company six branches in California — Glendora, Bakersfield and Temecula in southern California, and Merced, Modesto and Sacramento in the north central part of the state.
Previous owner Peter Maginnis will remain with the Glendora branch as general manager.
“I purchased Equiprent in November of 2009 with the idea of bringing a higher level of customer service to the Southern California equipment rental industry,” said Maginnis, who added that Volvo Rents is a natural fit for SoCal.
The company also expanded its presence internationally with the acquisition of Casco Rentals, a division of Casco Inc. and Encar Rentals, in Puerto Rico. Casco was previously owned by the Irizarry Group, which also owned a three-location equipment rental company in Florida, acquired by Volvo Rents in August 2011.
Casco has branches in Toa Baja and Lajas, Puerto Rico. The facilities are Volvo Rents' first in Puerto Rico.
“Not only in the U.S., but on a global level there is an undergoing and unprecedented shift from buying equipment to renting,” said Mike Crouch, vice president of business development for Volvo Rents. “This puts us in a very favorable position as we continue to expand our footprint in various global marketplaces.”
In addition to its latest acquisitions, Volvo Rents opened a new company-owned rental location in Braintree, Mass. The new Volvo Rentals equipment rental branch will be Volvo Rents' third in Massachusetts, already in business in Southborough and Haverhill. The new facility will service the Boston marketplace.
Joel Linsley is branch manager of the new store. The company expects construction spending in the Boston market to top $25 billion between 2012 and 2016.
Based in Shippensburg, Pa., Volvo Rents is No. 17 on the RER 100.
