Herc Rentals Acquires Albany, N.Y.’s MAC Equipment
Herc Rentals has acquired MAC Equipment, an independent, single-location rental company in Albany, N.Y., from owners Rob and Janice Miller. The company was founded by Rob Miller in 2001. Miller at that time had about 25 years of experience in the equipment rental industry, starting with Albany Ladder, which was eventually acquired by NES Rentals. Miller also worked for NationsRent before deciding to start his own business.
MAC Equipment rented aerial equipment, forklifts and telehandlers.
Rob’s wife Janice joined the business in 2005, eventually becoming majority owner enabling the company to be certified as a Woman Owned Business, which provided a number of benefits with government projects and other market opportunities.
When it came time to sell, the Millers connected with another industry veteran Bryan Rich, who introduced them to C2 Advisors, spearheaded by Charles Snyder, a veteran of the rental industry who has served in executive roles with AMECO, NationsRent, Sunbelt Rentals and AmQuip Crane Rental. The purchase price was not disclosed.
“Charles and Bryan had our backs 125,000 percent and made the sale process easy,” Janice Miller told RER.
MAC Equipment’s 18 employees are continuing with Herc Rentals, Janice said. The new Herc branch will be managed by Kate Teidman, who was being trained by the Millers to eventually be a branch manager. “She’s very talented and will have an amazing future in her career,” Janice said.
The Millers remained with Herc for a brief transition period after the sale was finalized.
Founded in 1965, Herc Rentals is one of the leading equipment rental suppliers in North America with 2023 total revenues of approximately $3.3 billion. Herc Rentals’ parent company, known as Herc Holdings Inc., listed on the New York Stock Exchange on July 1, 2016, under the symbol “HRI.” Herc Rentals serves customers through approximately 400 locations and has about 7,200 employees in North America.
