JCB has expanded its X Series range of tracked excavators, unveiling its biggest model, the new 370X, its first entry in the 35- to 40-ton sector. JCB says the unit can move 18 tons more material per gallon of fuel than competitive models. It has a 322-horsepower Cummins diesel engine and new JCB UX user interface, with a 10-inch color touchscreen display and controls.

Increased hydraulic pressures boosts performance in hard digging. It offers extended service intervals for improved total cost of ownership. An upgraded undercarriage and heavy counterweight deliver maximum stability.

“With the introduction of the 370X, JCB takes yet another step forward this year in our goal of providing a comprehensive range of heavy equipment solutions for the construction industry,” said Sam Wagstaff, products manager, JCB North America. “At this end of the excavator market, contractors know they need strong, powerful machines with the latest technology to get the big jobs done on time and on budget. The JCB 370X excels in these attributes while lowering total cost of ownership and providing operators with a cab that keeps them comfortable and productive over the course of long days and challenging applications.

“The 370X is just the latest in a series of new machines and markets JCB has entered this year, including the introduction of two compaction machines and the T65D Telescopic Boom Lift.”

Cummins engine

The JCB 370X is powered by the latest Cummins L9 Tier 4 Final diesel engine. This 8.9-liter, 6-cylinder engine features 322 hp available at just 1,700 rpm. The engine delivers this maximum power within a reduced operating rev range to increase fuel economy and reduce overall noise levels.
A Kawasaki tandem hydraulic pump operates with an increased 5,076 psi pressure, rising to 5,511 psi during power boost cycles. Operational efficiency gets a big boost from the latest generation valve block and a hydraulically operated cooling fan with reversing function.

A heavier counterweight contributes to added stability, while larger structures cope with the additional forces. Increased service pipework diameters and raised hydraulic pressures result in more power at the dig end, which has been redesigned with cast boom foot and hydraulic ram pivot points for additional strength and longevity.

The 370X is supplied with a 21-foot (6.45 m) monoboom, with a choice of 8.6 foot (2.63 m), 10.6 foot (3.23 m) and 13.2 foot (4.03 m) arms. Optional heavy-duty arms have additional crush bars and reinforcement to cope with strenuous applications. Bucket pin diameter has been increased, and the machine can be fitted with a new JCB dual-pin coupler to pick up 3.53-inch (90 mm) or 3.93-inch (100 mm) attachments. There are also new 2.75 cubic yard XHD and 3.2 cubic yard XHD buckets available, plus JCB will offer a new HM330T hydraulic breaker specifically for the 370X.

The 370X is available with a range of options, including auxiliary hydraulic circuits with up to 15 attachment settings and a premium heated and cooled operator’s seat. LED lights are now standard, with options available to increase up to 14 LED work lights.

The machine can also be offered with a bird’s eye 360-degree camera system, integrated within the 10-inch display, can also be offered, along with high-visibility, wraparound handrails.
