PARK RIDGE, N.J. — Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. continues its efforts to grow in energy markets with the acquisition of WGI Rentals, based in Williston, N.D. By acquiring WGI Rentals, HERC further penetrates the exploratory drilling activity in and around the Bakken Shale, which is a significant market for conventional and unconventional drilling activities.

Founded in 2007, WGI has been servicing the local community and Bakken Shale service contractors.

“With its experience in providing equipment to the emerging petrochemical market in North Dakota, WGI enables Hertz to bring its industrial service expertise into a new region while enabling Hertz to tap into the growth of North Dakota's oil and gas industry,” said Mark Frissora, Hertz Global Holdings president.

The acquisition is the second significant purchase of a rental company in Williston this month. Delta Rigging & Tools, a leading rental provider of lifting and rigging products in the United States, acquired Grizzly Wire Rope & Chain, also based in Williston, earlier this month.

In other news, HERC added four new locations to the Pump & Power specialty division. The locations are in the Memphis, Tenn.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Detroit and San Diego markets.

Hertz Pump & Power has dedicated locations covering North America, as well as Europe and Asia. Product offerings include customized pumps, compressors, generators, cable and distribution products, and HVAC products and services. HP&P carries submersible, trash, well point, sludge master, and diaphragm pumps ranging from 2 inches to 30 inches, along with accessories; temporary power equipment ranging from 20-kW towable generators to 2-MW containerized generators; and HVAC equipment including indirect fired and electric heat available from 100 k to 2 million BTU, and temporary air conditioning from 1-ton spot coolers to 500-ton chillers.

“Hertz Pump & Power is an integral component to our overall growth strategy,” said HERC president Lois Boyd. “Our diverse line of equipment includes a wide variety of pump and power equipment and enables us to tap deeper into these high-potential markets. Whether needed for a general construction project or for disaster relief, Hertz is able to serve the needs of large and small companies alike.”

HERC, based in Park Ridge, N.J., has about 325 locations in the United States, Canada, China and Europe, and is No. 4 on the RER 100.
