Riwal Converts 26-Meter Boomlift to Electric Power

June 26, 2014
The 800AJ conversion to electric was done following a request from Royal Dutch Airlines for a 26-meter working height aerial work platform for use on aircraft maintenance inside the hangars that would not expose employees to emissions or loud noise.

Aerial work platform and telehandler rental specialist Riwal has coverted the JLG 800AJ articulating boomlift from diesel to electric powered, the company said. The 800AJ conversion to electric was done following a request from Royal Dutch Airlines for a 26-meter working height aerial work platform for use on aircraft maintenance inside the hangars that would not expose employees to emissions or loud noise.

The diesel engine and the fuel tank were replaced by an electric engine, battery pack, charger and control mechanics of the electric engine. The customized machine is fully compliant with TUV test requirements.

The JLG 800AJ, converted to electric power by Riwal, is used to perform maintenance at a Royal Dutch Airlines hangar.

The key features of the JLG 800AJ, such as working height and horizontal outreach, combined with the electric power source, provides Riwal customers with a strong solution enabling them to work in a safe and productive way while reducing emissions and noise.

“Riwal’s vision is to deliver the best customer experience in the industry and the JLG 800AJ electric by Riwal is an excellent example of how we translate this vision into practice,” said Norty Turner, Riwal CEO. “At the same time, this aerial work platform is a sustainable alternative to diesel-powered machines.”

Riwal is based in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, and has operations in 17 countries on three continents. The company has more than 13,000 aerial work platforms in its rental fleet.
