Key Innovation: ESP Scoring… Serious Labs’ first-of-its-kind “ESP ScoringTM” is a unique and specialized scoring system designed to not only provide standardized training metrics but translate them into practical terms. It uses objective machine observation of an operator’s behaviors to provide a detailed assessment in terms of Efficiency, Safety, and Proficiency (ESP) — three factors which work together to determine productivity and the health of a jobsite.

Manufacturer’s Description: The latest feature of Serious Labs’ MEWP VR Operator Training Simulator is “ESP Scoring” – a new feature designed to better communicate the value of simulator training to the industry. By understanding how errors and failure to observe best practices can impact the equipment, jobsite, or the safety of others, operators gain contextual insight into how to improve their skills. Trainers, meanwhile, are better informed when it comes to clearing operators for the jobsite and can better direct additional training to improve areas that are still untrained or lack consistency.

The scoring system defines each of the three attributes:

Efficient Operation: Output which minimizes use of time and resources, while still meeting quality standards.

Safe Operation: Output which follows practices used to preserve the life and health of every individual on the jobsite.

Proficient Operation: Output which demonstrates skill, reducing compounded equipment maintenance costs and lifespan.

An operator’s session results are then compared against a performance baseline determined by the customer. This baseline is informed by industry standards, but minimum expectations can be raised or lowered depending on the values and demands of each customer. By measuring performance in quantifiable and practical terms, trainers, project directors, contractors, and companies can gain useable insight into the risk or value an operator brings to the jobsite — avoiding the risk of placing unprepared operators on live equipment prematurely and informing the need for additional training. While some form of in-person final assessment and familiarization with the actual equipment is required, we believe that innovative solutions like ESP Scoring are about providing operators and trainers with the tools needed to ensure the best training is provided to perform the best job.
