Atlas Copco South Africa last week signed an agreement to acquire assets of Consolidated Rock Machinery Ltd. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

CRM is the leading distributor of surface drill rigs, portable compressors, and compact equipment, as well as rig-mounted and handheld construction and demolition equipment. CRM, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, has been a major player in the South Africa market since 1987 and manufactures hydraulic boom systems and a range of pneumatic tools.

CRM’s compact equipment business will not be included in the acquisition. Atlas Copco’s strategy has been to broaden its sales reach and improve its aftermarket business. CRM has a strong market presence and good geographical coverage with six sales and service operations in South Africa.

Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Atlas Copco’s brands include RSC Equipment Rental and Chicago Pneumatic.
