Genie Industries re-engineered its popular S-40 and S-45 self-propelled telescopic booms. The most significant upgrade is the proven ALC 500 electronic control system. Controls can be programmed with a laptop computer or personal data assistant, and all parameter adjustments can be made without tools or opening the control box. Another feature of the ALC 500 is the “Hall Effect” fully proportional joystick controllers. These easy-to-use controls incorporate fewer moving parts for increased reliability.

The S-40 boom reaches 46 feet and the S-45, with its articulating jib boom, reaches 51 feet of working height, with a horizontal reach of 31 feet 8 inches and 36 feet 8 inches respectively. The S-45 jib boom has a working range of 135 degrees, allowing the operator access to 75 degrees above horizontal and 60 degrees below horizontal. Both booms have a 500-pound lift capacity.

“The S-40 and S-45 booms feature Genie's revolutionary Terrain Tracking Active Oscillation System, which automatically senses the terrain and adjusts the axle position based on ground conditions,” says Glen Bowser, Genie project manager. “The oscillating axle helps keep all four wheels in contact with the ground even with the turntable rotated up to 90 degrees.”

Additional standard features include hydraulic platform rotation, 360 degree continuous turntable rotation, 12V DC auxiliary power, 160 degree hydraulic platform rotator, swing-out engine tray for simplified routine maintenance and positive traction drive on both 4×2 and 4×4 models.
