Perkins 400 Series engines are designed to provide a power range of 10.2–49.2 kW (13.7– 66 horsepower), while offering high torque at low speed. Perkins engines can be customized with variable and fixed-speed packages, low fuel consumption and electronic governing for better response and load acceptance.

The 400 Series meets EPA Tier 4 Interim / EU Stage IIIA legislation. The latest model, the 400F, also meets the new EPA Tier 4 Final / EU Stage IIIB targets, which took effect in 2013 for this power range.

The 400 Series common technology platform means the 400F model can be adapted for lower emissions regulation. Per the OEM, this means the engine retains a high residual value if the owner wishes to sell at a later date into less regulated markets.
