Vermeer

The BC1000XL brush chipper is powered by an 85-hp diesel engine and it can cut through 12-inch diameter material with improved efficiency. The unit features one of the largest feed openings in its class at 12 inches tall and 17 inches wide. The BC1000XL also features a large 25-gallon fuel tank for longer working sessions, gear-driven discharge-chute rotation for an infinite number of chute positions, and dual-edged cutter knives for reduced cutter expense. The unit comes standard with the patent-pending SmartFeed system, a bottom feed stop bar with two sensitivity settings, and has an optional winch that can securely move logs up to 2,000 pounds.

Toro

The Toro stump grinder's 17-inch cutter wheel features 12 cutting teeth, a wheel speed of 2,000 rpm and a tooth tip speed of 148 feet per second. To ensure all stump material is sufficiently removed, the unit offers a 36-inch above-grade maximum cutting height and 16.5-inch below-grade maximum cutting depth. Operators can position the wheel index at a 30-degree angle in order to efficiently tackle troublesome roots. The stump grinder utilizes Toro Dingo's hydraulic system, which produces 12 gpm of flow at 3,000 psi of hydraulic power.

Morbark

The Hurricane 18 is a rugged chipper with heavy-duty construction and an 18-inch diameter chipping capacity, the company says. To increase productivity, the Hurricane 18 is built standard with a reversing automatic feed system. This feature makes it possible to not only stop the feed system, but to also reverse the material away from the drum, allowing the chipper to regain its rpm even quicker, which results in increased fuel economy and greater productivity. The unit is equipped with a height-adjustable, 360-degree discharge chute and with replaceable knife holders on the drum. The patented, integrated air system is located in the chipper housing to provide controlled airflow to assist in carrying light, leafy material into the back of the truck.

MacKissic

The Merry Commercial 12PHT chipper-shredder has a 34-inch wheelbase that is designed to tow easily over the highway. The tool steel knife, mounted on the 17-pound balanced flywheel, chews up to 3-inch limbs at a rate of 10 feet or more per minute. Twenty-four, free-swinging reversible hammers pulverize lawn and garden debris to create mulch and compost. Four-position baffle discharge and centrifugal clutch for no-load starting make it user friendly, the company says.

Bandit

Bandit's newest hand-fed chipper, Model 1990, is designed to process large-diameter forked trees. The unit is fashioned after the Model 1890 but features a wider drum and a larger chipper opening that measures 26.5 inches high by 24.5 inches wide. The standard Model 1990 is equipped with a powerful feed system and is available with engine options up to 140 hp. The heavy-duty version has engine options up to 250 hp and is equipped with an even stronger feed system, similar to that on Bandit's whole-tree chippers.

The Wood-Pro 25Qi160 AVP is a one-hopper chipper and shredder. It is designed to uniformly reduce debris into small chips or mulch without using sizing rods or screens that tend to clog and slow down chipping. The unit can handle material from leaves and weeds, up to 4-inch diameter brush or tree limbs. The 25Qi160 has a 16-hp, Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine with recoil start that drives a 25-inch triple-action rotor, activated by a manual clutch. Four, twin flails and triple-fixed cutter reduce debris to a small, uniform size.

Roger Linnett, president of Roseland, N.J.-based Linnett Landscaping & Design uses the AVP to chip and shred yard waste after pruning jobs. “The machine is very fast and easy to use,” Linnett says. “We have no clogging problems and use the chips as mulch around plants. It makes the property owner happy and we don't have to carry the chips back.”

Bobcat

The Bobcat chipper attachment is designed to eliminate tree limbs, branches and other debris quickly, safely and easily. It grinds branches and tree limbs with up to 35 hp of chipping performance and reduces branch volume 10-to-1. A standard hydraulic power feed allows the feed roller to move branches into the chipper at a consistent speed, so the operator can work safely and efficiently. And unlike pull-type chippers, the Bobcat chipper attachment allows for handling chipping jobs virtually anywhere, including backyards and remote areas.

All Seasons Landscaping and Tree, Fredericksburg, Va., uses its Bobcat chipper attachment to access areas where larger chippers cannot. Before purchasing the chipper attachment, the company transported material to a recycling facility where they paid to drop it off. Now, with the Bobcat loader and chipper attachment, the company can perform on-site grinding of branches and debris, and avoid costly transport and drop-off fees.

Rayco

Rayco introduces its 6-inch disk brush chipper, the RC 6D. A 25-hp Kohler V-twin engine produces torque ratings of 39.5-foot pounds at 2,800 rpm, generating high performance while providing long life and easy maintenance. The RC 6D is suited to rental applications because of its enhanced safety features and economical performance, the company says. Reversing auto feed keeps the RC 6D at the correct rpm level to create more uniform chips, and uses less fuel and minimizes vibration, which reduces wood shifting to keep the operator safer.
