Aggreko, global leader in temporary power generation and temperature-control solutions, has been an Official Local Supplier to America’s Cup Event Authority, and is providing a complete power solution to operate the 34thAmerica’s Cup, taking place July 4-Sept. 21 in San Francisco. Dating back to 1851, the sailing event is believed to be the oldest trophy in international sports.

“The America’s Cup demands all facets of its event to operate at a high level of sustainability, whether achieved by optimizing the use of energy or minimizing air emissions,” said George Long, event services manager for Aggreko North America. “Aggreko designed a reliable and sustainable solution for the event, including the use of Tier 4 generators, which incorporate the latest engine technology available to reduce emissions, and the use of utility power where possible.”

Aggreko’s events team is powering a dozen Superyachts and multiple venues throughout San Francisco, including a 9,000-seat temporary amphitheater, sponsor areas, VIP clubs, food courts, corporate chalets and video walls broadcasting the event to viewers across the city. The installation required 20 miles of cable and various-sized event-purpose generators for clean and quiet operation, providing primary as well as secondary backup power for the media compound.

Aggreko planned and coordinated the installation with several dozen vendors, including construction and scaffolding companies, painters, decorators and designers.
