Manitowoc Cranes sold a number of cranes to major crane rental companies at ConExpo last month.

Manitowoc sold a new Grove GMK6400 to Trevose, Pa.-based AmQuip Crane Rentals, which is one of Manitowoc’s “pre-production partners,” which tests new crane models in the field and provides feedback and suggested improvements before the crane goes into full production.

New features found on the GMK6400 include a new hydrostatic drive system called Mega Drive, a single engine for reduced fuel consumption and an operator-rigged Mega Wing Lift capacity-enhancing system.

All Erection & Crane Rental Corp. acquired a Manitowoc 16000 crawler crane with wind attachment, and a Grove GMK6300L all-terrain crane. The 440-ton 16000 is the 17th in the company’s fleet, and the newly developed wind attachment is its second. The unit will allow the crane to place 2.5-MW turbines on 80-meter towers.

The 350-ton Grove is the first in the United States, with a main boom of 262 feet. The unit was purchased by Central Crane Rental Service, an All Erection company, and also a pre-production partner.

Manitowoc also sold a Grove RT9150 rough-terrain crane to Groves Equipment Rental Co., purchased for a long-term rental to a chemical company. The unit has a 150-ton capacity and a 197-foot main boom length.

Manitowoc Co. is based in Manitowoc, Wis.
