Disappointing traffic but a serious buying atmosphere was the consensus view of last week’s American Rental Association convention and trade show in Anaheim, Calif. Although attendance figures were unavailable at press time, ARA officials reportedly estimated attendance at about 10 percent lower than last year’s New Orleans show. Exhibitors also expressed disappointment with the dropoff from the first day to the third. However, many exhibitors said they did good business at the show and said that there were fewer “tire-kickers” in attendance and more serious buyers who knew what they wanted. ARA’s new product premiere, which showcased new products, was generally well received. Seminars, which were concentrated on the first day of the convention before the show floor opened on the second day, were well-attended by industry participants. Next year’s convention will be held Feb. 26-29 in Atlanta.
