Phoenix-based Acme Lift Co., the rental industry’s largest aerial re-rental specialist, recently acquired a 236-foot Bronto boom lift, the largest aerial work platform in North America, from United Rentals. Acme also picked up a 180- and a 177-foot Bronto in the deal as well as a 170-foot Condor lift.

Acme CEO Woody Weld told RER that at least four rental companies, including United, already have placed orders to use the machines, which were originally owned by John Cave’s Equipment Supply, which United acquired in 1998.

“It took a lot of effort to get the financing done, but we got it done,” Weld told RER. “These are the largest aerial work platforms in North America and now since we only do re-rentals, virtually every rental company can put together a deal to offer them to their customers.”

Weld hired former Equipment Supply aerial technician Larry Kornacky to service the machines on a full-time basis. Kornacky will be available to supervise service technicians from rental companies that re-rent the machines from Acme and, when needed, will be available to do the work himself.

“With their exceptional working heights and horizontal outreach, plus their greater platform capacities, these machines are likely to have a lot of applications on construction sites, in film production projects and for industrial work,” Weld added.
