Last week Holt Cat held ground-breaking ceremonies for facilities in Laredo and San Antonio.

Holt Cat held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Laredo, Texas, location with the presence of local officials including the mayor of Laredo Raul Salinas. The 24,000-square-foot facility for heavy equipment, parts, service and sales will be gold LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED certification offers third-party validation of a project’s green features.

Holt, based in San Antonio, opened its first Laredo store in 1978 and has 20 sales, service and parts employees there. The new facility is expected to open January 2013.

“Holt is investing in new and expanded facilities to demonstrate our commitment to service and our customers in Webb and surrounding counties,” said Allyn Archer, president and chief operating officer.

Holt also last week broke ground for its new ProTech facility at its San Antonio campus. Holt ProTech is the technical training arm of Holt Cat and is a Caterpillar Regional Dealer Learning Center for natural gas engine and electric power generation training. Holt ProTech provides certified training for Caterpillar dealers on Caterpillar Tier 4 Interim diesel engines, as well as the new Caterpillar CT660 Vocational truck. Holt ProTech also delivers technical training for Caterpillar machines, petroleum transmissions and Link-Belt cranes, as well as Caterpillar operator training.

The new 10,651-square-foot facility will be built to silver LEED standards.
In addition to training Holt personnel, Holt ProTech is expected to train more than 1,600 Caterpillar dealer technicians from the United States and other countries.

Holt Cat is No. 23 on the RER 100.
