Cummins Emirates, the local sales and services arm of Cummins Middle East, last week announced that it signed a large deal to provide hundreds of power generators to the recently launched energy division of Al Faris Equipment Rentals, the United Arab Emirate's largest lifting and construction services provider.

The generators will range from 30kVA to 1250kVA and will be delivered over the next 18 months. The deal will significantly impact both companies, as Cummins will capture approximately 35 percent of the power generator market share, while Al Faris's energy rental business unit will secure a major share of the UAE's power rental market.

“The launch of the energy division of Al Faris Equipment Rentals is a significant addition to the regional power rentals scene from a well established player in the construction services sector,” said El Arabi Almaz, PowerGen sales manager for Dubai and Northern Emirates, Cummins Emirates.

Industry analysts forecast that the GCC is expected to require more than 100 Gigawatts of new power capacity over the next 10 years in order to cater to the real estate projects that are announced and those currently under construction.

Industry sources estimate the UAE's power generation market to exceed $200 million by the end of this year, of which 25 percent will come from the power rental business. The various sizes of generators supplied to Al Faris will be used to provide temporary power at mid- to large-scale construction sites, oil & gas and various other sectors all over the UAE.

Al Faris Equipment Rentals recently launched a specialized energy rental division to cater to the ever-increasing demands of UAE's booming construction, oil & gas sector. “Our decision to rely exclusively on Cummins was driven by the fact that Cummins offers superior engineering and design capabilities for turn-key projects, which are essential for our customers,” said Ramesh Achar, general manager, Al Faris Energy Division.

Cummins has provided key projects in the UAE with power generation solutions over the past 7 years, including the expansion at Dubai Airport, JT Metro power station and the Mall of the Emirates hotel.
