Cummins Inc. is currently working on a more than 400-machine integration project that will feature the latest generation of Cummins QSF2.8 to QSX15 engines and aftertreatment that will meet near-zero emissions, in line with the Jan. 1, 2014, emissions regulations for machines rated above 174 hp. The projects range from 49 hp to 675 hp , with approximately 70 original equipment manufacturers producing machines used in construction, material-handling, mining and other industrial applications. They include everything from an excavator, drill rig, road planer, bulldozer, paver and telehandler to various types of cranes, all of which include a complete air-handling-to-aftertreatment exhaust-out system and the latest 4-cylinder QSF3.8 and QSB4.5 engines
Hatz Diesel announces the American introduction of the water-cooled 4-cylinder turbo engine 4H50TIC. The engine features better fuel efficiency, power-to-weight ratio, and improved environmental aspects. With 1952 cc, the engine has a maximum power of 75 hp and a maximum torque of 177 pound foot which is already available from as low as 1600 rpm. Including starter and alternator, the engine weighs just 381 pounds giving it high power to weight ratio in the power class up to 56 kW. It features reduced particulate emissions that enable it to achieve the exhaust emissions standards EU 97/68 stage IIIB and EPA Tier 4 final without the use of a diesel particulate filter.
EX Series engines from Subaru Industrial Power Products feature high-performance, chain-driven overhead cam technology. The chain-driven OHC technology allows the intake and exhaust valves to be positioned for optimum engine performance. This offers lower resistance for the air/fuel mixture flow. The EX engines incorporate a highly efficient, pent-roof-type combustion chamber and are able to utilize a high compression ratio to produce higher power and torque while limiting exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. EX Series engines include the EX13, EX17, EX21, EX27, EX30, EX35 and EX40 models, which produce 4.3-, 5.7-, 7-, 9-, 9.5-, 12- and14-horsepower, respectively.
Kubota introduces a new addition to the industrial spark ignited engine line up. The new WG2503 will be available in gasoline, LPG and dual fuel. The WG2503 is a naturally aspirated engine with a bore and stroke of 88 x 102.4 mm. The gasoline output is 45.5 kW and the LPG is 46 kW both running at 2700 rpm. The engine is based on an industrial engine platform with the same footprint as the Kubota V2403 diesel engine. The engine offers low vibration and is quiet, the maker says. Additional features include: wire harness /ECU factory installed; full CAN capabilities; electronic fuel injection; throttle control (electronic drive by wire); three-way catalytic converter; gear drive valve train (no belts or chains); and a diagnostic port.
The new GXR120 general purpose engine from Honda can be used as a source of power for rammers — equipment used to compact soil or other granular material. Offered as a second power option to the GX100 engine, the new GXR120 engine has been designed to provide durability and reliability for heavy-duty applications. With a displacement of 121 cc, the engine can power 110-pound to 175-pound rammers at multiple altitudes. It features a new, special cast-iron cylinder sleeve and a high carbon-steel, dual-ball bearing crankshaft. The recoil starter and fan cover of the new GXR120 also incorporates steel in the design.
Volvo Penta is introducing new 5- and 8-liter engines that meet EU Stage II, Stage IIIA and Stage IV emissions standards. These D5 and D8 engines have a redesigned platform, advanced fuel injection and after treatment systems, and use the same base units as Volvo trucks and buses. The D5 and D8 engines also share the same base engine design as their D11, D13 and D16 counterparts, as well as a common electronics platform. They have an inline 4- and 6-cylinder design with turbocharger. Displacement in the D5 and D8 is increased compared to previous versions, offering improved engine block stiffness, as well as higher torque at low speed. Fuel consumption is also reduced by as much as 2.5 percent.
The Kohler Command Pro Horizontal (CH440) has a14 hp engine, 6.1 gear reduction, reduced rpm speed, and increased torque. It features steel crankshafts and cast-iron cylinder bores and boasts the Kohler Quad-Clean all season four-stage cyclonic air filter to protect against tough and dirty conditions. It has the ability to repower a variety of rental equipment, including aerators, dethatchers and concrete mixers.
Case Construction Equipment introduces its new radial-lift skid steer, the SR210, a new Tier 4 Final model that features EZ EH controls, enhanced torque, breakout force, and standard auxiliary hydraulic flow. The new model has an increased rated operating capacity of 2,100 pounds when compared to its predecessor, the SR200. A cooled exhaust gas recirculation engine design with particulate matter catalyst helps reduce maintenance and increases engine power by 10 percent. It features a 19.5-gallon fuel tank, an EZ EH setup menu with nine preset speed and control settings, and new handles that improve controllability and feathering.
TSV-90 skid-steer loader from Terex features an 85 hp Tier 4 compliant Cummins turbocharged engine with 3,375 pounds of rated operating capacity and 131 inches of lift height. It features a 9,430 pound operating weight, a 6,750 tipping load, and a 5,820 pound breakout force, as well as 8,700 pounds of tractive effort and a 23-gallon fuel tank capacity. It comes standard with mechanical-faxed axle seals and has an optional two-speed hydrostatic drive system with speeds up to 12 mph. The skid-steer loader is also designed with load-sensing hydraulics to conserve fuel and energy. Terex offers performance-matched attachments for the unit.
The all-new 2700V NXT2 and 3300V NXT2 vertical-lift skid-steer loaders offer Tier IV-certified Yanmar 72 hp diesel engines that incorporate DPF technology. The rated operating capacity on the 2700V NXT2 is 2,700 pounds and on the 3300V NXT2 is 3,300 pounds, while the 2700V NXT2 offers a little more than 10’10” of lift height and the 3300V NXT2 offers more than 10’11” of lift height. They also offer a fully customizable digital in-cab display that provides coolant, fuel, battery, environmental, engine regeneration and other system information in real time for an overview of complete system performance.
Caterpillar announces four new D Series skid-steer loaders and two updated D Series machines. The Cat D Series line now encompasses six skid-steer loader models ranging in rated operating capacity from 1,800 pounds to 3,700 pounds. The 236D and 242D are mid-size frame models and can be as narrow as 60 inches. The 236D has been redesigned to a smaller platform size. The result is a power-dense radial-lift-path model that combines compact dimensions with impressive performance specs: 1,800-pound operating capacity, 123-inch hinge-pin height, 74.3 hp gross engine power and peak torque of 195 pound-ft.
Two skid-steer models (318E, 320E) and two compact track loader models (319E, 323E) join John Deere’s E-series line of skid-steer loaders and compact track loaders. The machines include upgraded boom performance, auxiliary lines that are integrated through the boom, and cab improvements aimed at improving operator and machine productivity. Other new features include connect-under-pressure auxiliary hydraulic couplers and courtesy lighting that stays on up to 90 seconds after the engine is shut down. Available options include a keyless-start sealed-switch feature with an anti-theft system and a ride control option that features shock-absorbing boom cylinders.
Bobcat Company has released its first Tier 4 600 skid-steer loaders—the S630 and S650. With 74 horsepower, these loaders provide operators with all of the same performance benefits of the previous interim Tier 4 models and meet emissions standards without a diesel particulate filter . They also feature increased torque, a 500-hour engine oil and filter change interval, and air filter equipped with a built-in pre-cleaner filter, and an easy to install cartridge-style block heater. The S630 has radius lift path and both have a two-speed option with a maximum speed of 7.1 mph in low mode and 12.3 mph in high mode.
Volvo Construction Equipment has launched the new MCT110C compact track loader in North America. With a 2,250-pound rated operating capacity, the MCT110C shares the same assortment of features of the other compact track loaders and skid steer loaders from Volvo, including the Tier 4 Final four-cylinder engine (74 hp / 55 kW). It features service access through the forward-tilting cab and large rear compartment service door. In addition, side entry and exit of the cab make it possible for the operator to engage the loader arm support without the aid of a second person.
The 205 skid steer from JCB features a fuel-efficient, Tier 4 Final engine from Kohler’s Global Power Group. The water-cooled Kohler Direct Injection engines — which is branded JCB Diesel by Kohler — also meet the next stage of emissions regulations without the need for a DPF. Other features include: up to 10 percent improvement in fuel economy; electro-hydraulic controls with multiple response modes; extended air cleaner service life; and, auto idle feature for additional fuel savings.
LiuGong introduces its 375B skid steer, equipped with a Tier IV final engine. It features a totally new design, from the frame structure to the control system, including a radical new curved cab. The metal and glass have been reshaped to improve visibility and control. In addition, the machine lifts to a dump clearance height of 7’3’’ with a lift speed of 4.1 seconds, dump at 2.4 seconds and float down of 2.2 seconds, a rated operating load of 1,907 pounds in its standard configuration with a 0.52yd3 bucket, and travels at 6.6 mph. It features an extra-large cab with ergonomically placed controls and large, curved cab. The 375B also has a full suspension seat that is fully adjustable.
Centreville Manufacturing introduces its new Roadway Work-Zone Trailer, which includes all of the signs, sign holders and traffic cones and barrels that would be used when working on or alongside a public street or roadway. The system helps users customers comply with the federally mandated Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The trailer comes complete with 50 signs and 16 wind-rated sign holders, 200 cones and 42 barrels. Cone and barrel posts are welded to the trailer deck keeping everything in place while driving. The trailer can be purchased bare for contractors that already own signs, cones and barrels.
The telescopic 55-ton hydraulic removable gooseneck trailer from Talbert Manufacturing offers a 20-inch deck height, the versatility to extend deck length and the flexibility to operate with multiple rear axle configurations. The HRG features a 96-inch swing radius and a gooseneck extension with a 120-inch swing clearance and a 20-inch deck height. The Talbert 55-ton telescopic trailer features 3rd and 4th axles that can be flipped or removed, plus a 24-inch pinned and hinged gooseneck extension that also can be flipped enabling the trailer to be shortened to less than 53 feet to meet permitting requirements. The trailer is equipped with standard air-ride suspension and optional Dura-Bright aluminum wheels, strobe lights at each axle, and a battery backup that powers the lighting package when the trailer is disconnected from the truck cab.
Felling Trailers announces another option on its drop deck trailers including its IT-I series. Center chain slots are now an option on the drop deck trailer models and are ideal for securing scissor lifts and other general cargo. The I-Series Trailer is constructed of a single cold formed I-Beam to make the outer trailer frame from tongue to tail, giving a very solid structure. The single frame design also gives the I-Series a clean and strong profile. Available trailer capacities range from 7,480 to 20,000 pounds and come in various deck lengths.
Aluma introduces its latest model of aluminum trailers, the 7712H Tilt flatbed utility trailer. These single heavy axle trailers are designed for a wide range of hauling applications. The 7712H Tilt model features 14-inch aluminum wheels, fenders with vinyl gravel guards, an extruded aluminum floor and front and side retaining rails. The bed is 77 inches wide by 144.5 inches long. The trailers also include an LED lighting package and safety chains.
