Volvo Construction Equipment this week announced it has become a Gold-Level supporter of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ I Make America campaign, a grassroots effort launched in September 2010 to dramatically improve American manufacturing policies to create more jobs in the United States and keep the economy competitive with other countries.

“We commend Volvo CE for achieving Gold status in the I Make America campaign,” said Dennis Slater, president of AEM. “As a member of AEM, Volvo CE exemplifies the commitment we need from all manufacturers around the country to send the message to Congress and the White House that our economy is in urgent need of a new manufacturing policy that will create jobs.”

According to AEM, I Make America Gold-Level supporters are companies that have achieved participation benchmarks marking them as industry leaders, including significant employee involvement; outreach to their state, local and federal legislators; promoting campaign sign-ups at trade shows and with allied trade associations; and production of a video telling the story of how their companies, employees and communities “make America.”

Volvo is currently in the process of making a $100 million investment in its facilities in Shippensburg, Pa., bringing local production of some core products to North America and creating a customer and demonstration center as well as creating an Americas headquarters facility on the current campus.

“We all want the best for America,” said Bill Law, head of corporate communications for Volvo’s construction division in the Americas. “Initiatives such as I Make America are excellent ways to focus everyone’s attention on using the muscle of the construction industry to get the giant wheel of the U.S. economy spinning at top speed again and as such Volvo is very pleased to be able to play a part in the campaign.”
