JCB has won a $4.8 million per year deal to supply engines to Johnston Sweepers, the world’s leading manufacturer of street-cleaning equipment. Johnston supplies its equipment to the rental market, the public sector, contractors and airports through a network of 200 global dealers.

The contract is a major milestone for JCB, secured just weeks after the new Tier 4 Ecomax engine went into full production at JCB Power Systems in Foston, Derbyshire, U.K. JCB’s engines already power more than 70 percent of the construction and agricultural machines JCB manufactures each year.

“JCB and Johnston Sweepers share the same values of producing world-leading products driven by both design and manufacturing excellence as well as efficient operation,” said JCB powertrain managing director Malcolm Sandford.

JCB will begin producing engines for Johnston Sweepers’ equipment in December. JCB will primarily supply Johnston Sweepers with JCB’s 4.4-liter 55kW Ecomax engine, which is Tier 4 final ready, the company said, without requiring SCR systems.

“With the advanced technology of the latest JCB Tier 4 compliant engine at the heart of the new sweeper range, we are maximizing performance, payload, fuel consumption and water conservation and producing the most cost-effective and practical city sweeper on the market,” said Graham Howlette, Johnston Sweepers’ U.K. sales manager.
