Volvo Trucks has a new line of commercial trucks with engines that it said would meet the federal emission standards scheduled to go into effect Oct. 1.

The company said it is the only truck manufacturer to design a truck specifically to meet the federal-emission standards.

The Volvo VN joins the Volvo FH and Volvo FM models and were showcased in the parking lot at Grandover Resort and Conference Center, Greensboro, N.C. The company spent $190 million over three years developing the seven-model truck line. The company expects the engine to be certified as compliant with the new emission standards for diesel engines before the Oct. 1 deadline.

The trucks will be produced at the company’s plant in Dublin, Va., where it employs 1,700 people. Volvo said initially it doesn’t plan on adding staff for the new production.
