Operating ease and flexibility combine to provide maximum productivity from John Deere's newest crawler dozer, the 26-metric-ton 950C.

The machine's ease of operation and maneuverability are the direct result of its full-featured hydrostatic drive train. With an infinitely variable range from 0 to 6.8 mph, the operator can choose the right ground speed by flipping a switch. All available power is then applied, regardless of the selected range. The dozer features an integral power management system that improves efficiency.

“Once the operator sets the maximum desired ground speed, the machine does the rest,” says Brett Errthum, business analysis manager, John Deere Construction and Forestry Co. “As loads change, the drive train responds, automatically powering up or down to maintain peak engine rpm and efficiency.”

Powered by a Liebherr D 926 TI inter-cooled and turbo-charged diesel engine, the crawler dozer delivers 230 net hp at 1,800 rpm. In spite of its large size, it offers maneuverability and response. The hydrostatic drive train allows the machine to make tight turns at any speed. Infinitely variable track control enables operators to speed up or slow power to each track for smooth, full-power turns that don't tear up soft terrain like clutch/brake systems do.
