American Honda Motor, Kubota Corp. and The Stanley Works were among six companies that recently settled Federal Trade Commission charges that they had made misleading "Made in the U.S.A." claims on their products.

The FTC said the products in question - including three Honda lawn mower models, Kubota's T-Series of lawn tractors and numerous mechanics tools made by Stanley - were all made with significant foreign components or labor.

The settlements prohibit further misrepresentation of the "Made in the U.S.A." standard. Each further violation of the law could result in penalties of $11,000 per instance, according to the FTC.
