Don't Underestimate ConExpo-Con/Agg

Dear RER:

I noted with interest your coverage of BAUMA in the May 1 issue of RER. You are right — BAUMA is a gigantic show! It encompasses not only construction, as ConExpo-Con/Agg does, but also building materials and now mining. In fact AEM produces an exhibits pavilion at BAUMA to help member companies more easily participate in the exposition.

It has probably already been pointed out to you that some of the numbers in your editorial and article were “off” — must be that doggone metric system conversion!

AEM is one of the owners of ConExpo-Con/Agg, so I just wanted to note that the last show, in 2002, covered more than 1.8 million net square feet of exhibit space, not 120,000 square feet as you stated in your editorial. Exhibit space sales for ConExpo-Con/Agg 2005 have already topped 1.6 million net square feet.

Like the folks at BAUMA, we are seeing a sense of industry optimism about the economy, but as you note in your editorial, companies still face competitive challenges. Trade shows such as BAUMA and ConExpo-Con/Agg provide a great opportunity for manufacturers and their customers to discuss the latest technology and equipment to improve business operations.

[Editor's Note: RER apologizes for the miscalculation of square footage. It is certainly not our intention to downgrade ConExpo, an excellent show we encourage all our readers to attend.]
