JCB’s last week announced that its rapid growth in India continued in 2007 with record turnover and machine sales. JCB India sold more than 17,000 machines during 2007 up from 10,800 sold in 2006.

JCB also announced that the number of dealer outlets selling JCB machines rose from 202 to 285 between 2006 and 2007, as JCB has maintained its reputation for first-class customer support by building a dealer network capable of supporting the company’s growth. There are now 45 dealers in India with 285 depots.

In addition JCB trained 3,000 operators in 2007, twice as many as in 2006. A dedicated part of the marketing team at the JCB India headquarters in Ballabgarh, Haryana, oversees the training of the operators.

“India is a very important market for JCB worldwide,” said Vipin Sondhi JCB India managing director. “We are fully committed to the meeting the growing demands of Indian industry and have planned our growth path by making strategic investments in our manufacturing facilities in both Ballabgarh and Pune.”

“We are investing £36 million (U.S. $70.6 million) doubling the capacity of our Ballabgarh plant in addition to spending £2.5 million (U.S. $4.9 million) on a new parts distribution warehouse in Pune.

“JCB’s ongoing expansion in India will create further direct employment, as well as additional opportunities for our dealers and for the training of operators who use JCB machines. Currently over 3,000 operators are being trained in India and this number is likely to increase substantially in the years to come.”

JCB is the market leader in sales of construction equipment in India, with one in two construction machines sold in the country manufactured by JCB, the company said. Its plant in Ballabgarh produces backhoe loaders. There are two other plants in Pune, near Mumbai. The first, which produces steel fabrications, began producing components for JCB machines in 2005 following a £15 million investment (U.S. $29.4 million). The second Pune factory started production in 2006. It manufactures excavators, wheeled loading shovels and JCB Vibromax equipment.

JCB in India is a fully owned subsidiary of JC Bamford Excavators Limited, UK. JCB has three manufacturing plants in India, one in Ballabgarh (Haryana) and two in Talegaon, Pune (Maharashtra).

Since 1980 JCB has sold more than 60,000 machines in India. JCB India is the largest construction equipment manufacturer in the country. It sells a wide range of machines including excavators, backhoe loaders, articulated loading shovels, tracked excavators, telehandlers, vibratory compactors and robot skid-steer loaders.
