Ramirent and Zeppelin Rental, two European rental giants, have signed a contract to form a joint venture in preparation for supplying the cross-border Fehmarnbelt construction project, subject to the approval of relevant authorities. With the establishment of Fehmarnbelt Solution Services, the two companies will combine resources and expertise in handling large-scale construction sites for this project, which will be the world’s longest immersed tunnel.

The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link will comprise a four-lane motorway and a double-track electrified railway running on an approximately 18-kilometer section between the Danish and German coast. The project, with a construction volume of £5.5 billion (about U.S. 7.5 billion), is expected to start in the summer of 2015 and be completed in 2021. The final consortium of constructors is still to be selected after which other subcontractors, including other rental companies, can make offers.

“A project of this magnitude requires international collaboration,” said Magnus Rosen, president and CEO of the Ramirent Group. “By combining our complementary capacities, know-how and services, we are offering customized one-stop solutions for the entire lifecycle of the project on both the Danish and German side. Furthermore, we share our knowledge of the labor market and business practices in both countries.”

The broad range of services include modular space, equipment rental services, maintenance and repair, logistic and safety management and consulting, temporary infrastructure, energy and climate solutions, facility management services, access control, waste management, training and more. FSS will offer a 24/7 service onsite with rental depots in both countries.

“We have profound understanding on how to face and meet challenging projects, timelines and business objectives,” added Wolfgang Hahnenberg, chairman of Zeppelin Rental. “With our integrated site and project management services, we support customers concentrating on their core business and therefore improving their efficiency and productivity. Together with Ramirent, we are simplifying business.”

Ramirent, based in Vantaa, near Helsinki, Finland, has more than 300 branches in 10 countries in northern and central Europe. Zeppelin Group has 190 locations including Cat Rental Stores, in Germany, Austria, Russia, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
