“I enjoyed my time at Ashtead and I had no plans to leave, but when this opportunity arose with the largest rental company in Europe, I decided to make the change,” Shaughnessy told RER.

Shaughnessy grew up in the crane and aerial rental business. His family founded a business that included millwrighting, trucking and rigging in 1916. The company eventually evolved into the crane and aerial work platform business. Shaughnessy worked in varying management capacities with Shaughnessy Crane Services, and continued to run the business after it was acquired by National Equipment Services in 1997. He became regional vice president and eventually chief operating officer of NES before joining Ashtead several years ago.
