It may not have been as exciting as Usain Bolt but A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management played a major role in keeping London and the U.K. moving during the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The company, owned by Sunbelt Rentals parent Ashtead plc, supplied more than 80 Portable Variable Message Signs to display directional and parking advice to motorists to keep traffic flowing around the Olympic venues, ensure public safety and minimize impact on local communities.
The message signs, manufactured by PWS, were used around the Olympic Park, Wembley Stadium and Lord’s Cricket Ground, as well as outside of London at Brand’s Hatch, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
Messages on the signs were able to be remotely updated within 10 minutes as they operated using LED and solar technology from a web-based program. With a 24-hour dedicated Olympics Call Center operating throughout the games, A-Plant Lux had more than 500 people employed within London and more than 300 vehicles operating from A-Plant Lux Traffic Service Centres throughout the U.K.
