A-Plant, one of the U.K.’s leading equipment rental companies, recently placed orders for equipment for more than £24 million (about U.S. $38 million). The order follows the company’s £26 million investment in September 2011 and forms the second phase of a major £60 million+ investment into its rental fleet for this year, with plans to invest more than £330 million during the next five years.
A-Plant is the sister company to U.S.-based Sunbelt Rentals, both companies owned by Ashtead plc.
The recent spend equips A-Plant with additional fleet and replaces and renews older machines. The spend includes dumpers, excavators, pedestrian rollers and telehandlers, supplied by manufacturers such as Doosan, Terex and JCB. Substantial investment has also been made in aerial equipment including, diesel- and electric-powered scissorlifts and boomlifts, from JLG, Genie and Niftylift. It is also buying more than £2.3 million of compressors from Doosan and more than £3 million of Genset Generators from 10 kVa to 300 kVa.
“We understand that it is crucial to involve everyone in high-profile investment decisions such as this and so ensured we underwent an extensive consultation with our staff at the sharp end to identify what equipment was required to increase customer satisfaction and deal with customer demand,” said A-Plant CEO Sat Dhaiwal. “Over the next five years we plan to invest over £330 million in new equipment to ensure that we have one of the youngest most extensive and state-of-the-art fleets of equipment in the hire industry.”
