Deere & Co. is making capital investments of about $100 million in India to expand its tractor factory at Pune and a new plant for agricultural tractors. The company has not yet named the site for the new factory.
The machines produced at the new plant will be for sale within India as well as export.
Deere last month announced plans to build a $50 million construction equipment factory in China, with the expectation of beginning manufacturing there in 2012.
“John Deere will continue to pursue opportunities to grow in our core business of agriculture and construction equipment around the world,” said Samuel Allen, chairman and CEO of Deere & Co. “We have been successful in growing our tractor market share in India and will invest to continue that success.”
Deere also broke ground in September on a factory for grain harvesting equipment and inaugurated a John Deere Water facility in early 2010. The company is involved in a joint venture with Ashok-Leyland to build construction machinery.
