Tim Ferguson, principal of British Columbia-based North by Northwest Ventures called the Longview Advantage Alarm and Recovery Center recently when his employee told him their mini excavator was missing. The Alarm Center worked with local authorities to recover Ferguson’s machine several miles away.

As a landscape contractor in a high theft area, Ferguson had vShepherd asset tracking devices installed on all his equipment including skid steers, excavators and a dump truck.

“I have had so many things stolen before, that it feels weird to actually have my equipment recovered,” Ferguson said. “With so many thefts in our area, it’s a great feeling to know someone has been caught.”

When the police arrived at the location identified by the Alarm Center, they were met with a locked gate. With information from a North by Northwest employee familiar with the local terrain, however, they were able to go through a wooded area and across a ravine behind the property. There they saw stolen cars, ATVs, motorcycles, and other construction equipment. The North by Northwest Venture excavator was hidden under a party tent with all its decals removed.
