Greenwich, Conn.-based United Rentals last week announced the opening of its newest trench safety rental branch in North Olmsted, Ohio, a pump, power and HVAC equipment rental branch at the same location, and a general rental branch in Homestead, Fla.

"We have strategically positioned this new location to serve our customers involved in upgrading Cleveland's network of utilities and sewer systems," said Steve Bayda, branch manager for the trench safety branch. "An estimated $1 billion will be spent on construction to complete these projects. The North Olmsted facility is our second trench safety branch in the Buckeye State, effectively expanding our availability to customers who need quality underground equipment, service and supplies."

The pump, power and HVAC equipment rental division will provide solutions in temporary power, fluid handling, and climate control as well as a comprehensive line of contractor supplies.

"North Olmsted is among the many communities throughout Ohio that will benefit from the $37 million of construction funds earmarked by the state legislature for residential improvement projects," said Todd Pierosh, branch manager.

The new location will rent steel and aluminum trench shields, aluminum trench shores, steel sheet pile with modular walling systems, steel crossing plates and custom slide rail systems, as well as a range of confined space ventilators, detectors and other equipment. It will also rent temporary power generation, pumps, fluid handling, electrical testing and climate control equipment for commercial and industrial use.

In addition, United Rentals last week announced the opening of its Homestead, Fla., branch. The 2,500-square-foot facility will provide customers with equipment rentals, new and used equipment sales, repair and maintenance services, and a comprehensive line of contractor supplies.

“The residential construction boom in the Homestead area has now extended throughout the Keys,” said Tony Pielago, branch manager for United Rentals. “Schools, hospitals and municipal buildings are all under new construction or renovation to keep pace with the population. Our new location is ideally positioned to service both residential and commercial construction needs.”

The branch, which opened for business in July, did not sustain any damage as a result of Hurricane Wilma. All employees are accounted for and doing well, according to Ken Perkins, Southeast regional vice president. Though still a little spotty, telephone service was restored late last week, Perkins said. The new Homestead branch carries equipment for commercial and industrial construction, renovation and maintenance, including aerial work platforms.

United Rentals is No. 1 on the RER 100.
